HYPOSO Events

During the HYPOSO project, a series of events will be rolled out. In the target countries, capacity building courses, pre-feasibility workshops and framework condition workshops will be organized.

At the end of the HYPOSO project, a business cooperation study tour for African and Latin American stakeholders is planned that will end with the final workshop at IHE Delft.

Hydropower Events

The HYPOSO project was already presented at different occasions of hydropower events in Europe and the world.

30.10.2020

The HYPOSO presentations at HYDRO 2020 were a great success and attracted the interest of hydropower stakeholders from around the world. A complete 2.5 hours session was dedicated to HYPOSO. Veronica Minaya (EPN, Ecuador) and Bernhard Pelikan (Studio Frosio, Austria) were perfect hosts for the session.

It started with a general project overview by HYPOSO Coordinator Ingo Ball (WIP, Germany). Then, Petras Punys (VMU, Lithuania) presented the project's methodological approach for the framework condition reports that were carried out at the beginning of the project. The results of the framework conditions for the HYPOSO target countries were then presented by Joseph Kenfack (SHW) for Cameroon, Dan Marlon Nabutsabi (HPAU) for Uganda, Andres Gonzales Amaya (UMSS) for Bolivia, Carlos Velasquez (CELAPEH) for Colombia, and Veronica Minaya (EPN) for Ecuador. Beatrice Baratti (Studio Frosio, Italy) presented then the methodology to select the most promising hydropower sites which will be further used in the project. Miroslav Marence (IHE Delft, the Netherlands) gave then an overview about the scope of the planned capacity building courses which are planned from the year 2021 on. Concluding, Tasniem Jawaid (EREF, Belgium) presented the efforts to develop a comprehensive stakeholder list for the European hydropower industry, as well as the so-called HYPOSO Platform, which enables stakeholders from the HYPOSO target countries to get in direct contact with interested stakeholders from the European hydropower industry.

21 and 23 September 2020

On 21 and 23 September 2020, HYPOSO project partner Studio Frosio organized two online workshops to select the best potential hydropower sites that shall be investigated within the project in Cameroon and Uganda.

At the first workshop for Cameroon, on 21 Septenmber 2020, local HYPOSO project partner Solarhydrowatt managed to welcome stakeholders from the utility ENEO Cameroon, the Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency  (ARSEL - Agence de Régulation du Secteur de l'Electricité), the Ministry of Energy and Water (MINEE - Mnistère de l'Eau et de l'Energie du Cameroun), and the Electricity Development Corporation (EDC).

The second workshop, on 23 September 2020, was dedicated to the site selection in Uganda. HYPOSO project partner HPAU gathered representatives from eleven different stakeholders, including the Rural Electrification Agency, Rwenzori Power Ltd., PROESS Consulting Engineers, Kibaale HPP, Electrige Engineering Ltd and Uganda Development Bank (UDB).

At both workshops, Beatrice Baratti from Studio Frosio presented the pre-selection of 10 potential hydropower sites in Cameroon and Uganda, out of which 3 sites each are selected to carry out business case studies and make the sites ready for explorance. The discussions were very professional and interesting and support the achievement of the HYPOSO objectives.
The HYPOSO consortium thanks the participating stakeholders and the local partners.

28.11.2020

On 28 November 2019, in the framework of Renexpo Interhydro, the HYPOSO project was presented in Salzburg at the workshop "Small Hydropower in Africa and Latin America", which was organized by HYPOSO project partner EREF (Belgium).

Moderator Tasniem Jawaid (EREF) gave first an overview about the scope of the workshop and gave then the floor for the first presentation. Ingo Ball (WIP Renewable Energies) from Germany started with a general presentation of the H2020 project HYPOSO, showing the project aproach, the objectives and the planned impact of the project. After that introduction, three speakers from the HYPOSO project's target countries presented background information about their countries.

Veronica Minaya (Escuela Politecnica Nacional) presented facts and framework conditions for hydropower in Ecuador. Ecuador can become a regional electricity exporter only from the production from hydropower.

Impressions from the workshop

Then, two presentations about the two African target countries followed. Joseph Kenfack (Solarhydrowatt) presented first facts about Cameroon, revealing that the energy consumption in Cameroon is very low (electricity consumption of 1 German households corresponds to the consumption of 26 households in Cameroon). Finishing, Dan Marlone Nabutsabi (Hydro Power Association of Uganda Ltd) presented the facts for Uganda. In both African countries, especially the rural electrification is an issue to be developed further and will thus be investigated in the HYPOSO project.
